Telangana: Teacher booked for beating boy
Anand, nine, was hit by his Telugu teacher on Thursday for not being able to recite a poem.
Hyderabad: The Wanaparthy police has registered a case against the teacher who beat up a student of Class III for not learning a poem. The student, Anand, set himself ablaze because of the humiliation he experienced and suffered 80 per cent burns. The education department has also set up a three-member committee to conduct an inquiry.
Anand, nine, was hit by his Telugu teacher on Thursday for not being able to recite a poem. His classmates did not reveal details about the incident to their parents. Anand told his parents that Yugandhar, his Telugu teacher, had hit him for not being able to learn the poem.
Anand’s father Naganna filed a complaint with the police, saying that his son attempted suicide because his teacher humiliated him. The police registered a case. The teacher against whom the case was registered did not report on Friday.
The child’s condition remains critical. Doctors said that he will remain under observation for the next 48 hours.
