Chennai: Three arrested for raping minor
Police said the matter came to light after the victim, a 14-year-old girl, got four months pregnant.
Chennai: Three men were arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl over a period of time near Guduvanchery on Tuesday.
Police said the matter came to light after the victim, a 14-year-old girl, got four months pregnant. The accused were arrested on the statement of the girl’s grandmother after she was medically examined.
The accused were identified as Parama Shivam (60), Chidambaram (42) and Shankar (45). They are construction workers who work with the victim’s grandmother.
According to police, the girl’s parents got separated and the girl lives with her grandmother. The accused men had been living in the neighbourhood a few years ago. They used to come to the house and rape the girl in the absence of grandmother.
This had been happening for a few months. On Tuesday the girl complained that she was suffering from a stomachache and when taken to Guduvanchery government hospital the doctors informed that she was four months pregnant. The girl alleged that they threatened to kill her grandmother if she would say anyone about the incident.
Based on the complaint by the victim’s grandmother, Chengalpattu All women police have registered a case and arrested the three men under Pocso act. They were sent to judicial remand.
