Tirupati: A man was brutally murdered after he has failed to show hidden treasures as promised in Chittoor district.

B Venkata Ramana took money from two persons saying that he would show them hidden treasures. L. Lakshmipati, 26, of Sankrantipalle in Bangarupalyam mandal and M. Ramachandran, 29, a native of Anaikal in Veluru district gave Rs 3.2 lakh on different occasions to Vekata Ramana.

On August 22, both of them took Venkata Ramana from his home on the premise of some work. They took him to Devarakonda forest and asked him to perform occult puja to find out the hidden treasures as promised by him.

As Ramana neither showed the treasure nor returned the money Lakshmipati and Ramachandran killed him by hitting his head with a boulder. They left the body deep inside the forest and fled away.

Venkata Ramana’s wife Shobha lodged a missing complaint with the Gangavaram police on August 25. The police started investigating and were unable to trace him until now. On October 16, Lakshmipati and Ramachandran approached Bangarupayam VRO and surrendered.

The police took them to the crime spot and identified a skeleton. As the murder has taken place more than a month ago only the skeleton was found at the spot. However, based on other clues, the  police identified it as the remains of Venkata Ramana.

Palamaneru DSP, K Choudeswari said, "they were sending the bones for DNA test and a murder case was registered against Lakshmipati and Ramachandran.”
