Telangana: Villagers block burial of pregnant woman's body for dying on Amavasya
When the woman's family members brought the body to their village, the residents blocked them.
Hyderabad: The body of a pregnant woman who died during delivery was not allowed into her village because of the superstition that a person dying on Amavasya day will bring ill luck to the village. This inhumane and shocking act of the villagers forced her husband to place the body in a tent on the bank of a lake while he made arrangements for the last rites. The backward village is Turkayamjal in Abdullapurmet mandal.
G. Malati, the 30-year-old wife of Mallesh, lived in Indiramma Colony in Abdullapurmet. Around 26 days ago, she delivered a child in Gandhi Hospital, but developed complications and died on Friday night. When her family members brought the body to their house in Indiramma Colony, the residents blocked them saying that it is a bad omen.
After the videos of the incident went viral on social media, police rushed to the spot and managed to convince the villagers to allow the body to be taken to the house. Later her final rites were performed.
