Hyderabad: Farmer held for growing ganja in field
The excise cops have recovered Ganja weighing 700 gm.
Hyderabad: A farmer who was cultivating Ganja at his farm for consumption, was arrested by the Medchal excise cops on Saturday.
The excise cops have recovered Ganja weighing 700 gm. Usually, one has to get permission from Narcotic Control Bureau to cultivate Ganja for medical purposes. The accused has been identified as A. Veera Swamy, 54.
Acting on a tip-off, the excise officials went to the farm and nabbed the accused. Inspector of Medchal Excise police station D. Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “A person from the village advised the accused to consume ganja for improving his health. If a person is found cultivating ganja the accused can be imprisoned for 10 years and fined Rs 1 lakh.”
The police have registered a case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and further investigation is underway.
