Chennai: History-sheeter attacks cops, cuts own throat

Chennai: A city police sub-inspector suffered injuries after he was attacked by a history-sheeter during the early hours of Monday. SI P. Srinivasan attached to Aminjikarai police station was on vehicle check duty at Pulla Reddy avenue around 1.30 am when the incident happened.
The policeman had flagged a two-wheeler approaching the checkpoint. However, the rider abandoned the bike and fled after which Srinivasan gave a chase and nabbed him. At that instance, the man pulled out a pocketknife and attacked Srinivasan.
Hearing his cries, other policemen rushed to his aid. The attacker too slashed his throat with the knife, police said. Both the policeman and robber were moved to the Kilpauk Medical college hospital.
The attacker was identified as Manikandan (23) of Kolathur. He has more than five bike theft cases and mobile snatching cases against him, police said. A case was registered against him and he was arrested.
