Kakinada: US-made 9-mm pistol seized, two arrested
KAKINADA: Rajamahendravaram One Town police have arrested two persons – Kella Veera Venkata Satyanarayana (46) of Kothapeta in Konaseema district, involved in egg business, and Hari Surya alias Hari, an auto driver of Rajamahendravaram – and seized from them a US-made 9-mm pistol along with seven bullets.
One Town circle inspector S. Lakshmana Rao said Satyanarayana had bought the pistol from his brother-in-law, also named Satyanarayana, in Vizianagaram five years ago. Pistol buyer Satyanarayana had been planning to start an extortion business using the weapon.
On Wednesday night, Satyanarayana and Hari had been travelling on a bike to test fire the weapon in a remote area when police intercepted them on suspicion at Annapurnammapeta Railway Gate in Rajamahendravaram. On searching them, they found the US-made weapon and bullets.
Inspector Lakshmana Rao said a team has gone to Vizianagaram to arrest the other Satyanarayana, as the gun is illegal. The Vizianagaram Satyanarayana is into real estate business in Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam. He is said to have bought the weapon in Odisha.
One Town police have registered a case. Satyanarayana and Hari have been produced on Thursday before the second AJFMC Magistrate, who has remanded them for 14 days.
