In Mudigere, 500 bigwigs grab land... a full 6,000 acres!
Officials estimate that around 6,000 acres of revenue land has been allegedly encroached upon in Mudigere.
More than 500 people including prominent politicians are alleged to have grabbed government land and are keeping mum when notices were served on them by the officials concerned in Mudigere taluk of Chikkmagaluru.
The notices were served on the alleged land grabbers twice and none of them have replied to both notices so far, Mudigere Tahsildar Nagesh told Deccan Chronicle on Sunday.
As per an action plan framed after site observations on land grabbing were made by Village Accountants and Revenue Inspectors, officials at the Mudigere Tahsildhar’s office started to send notices to the alleged land grabbers from August last year getting due permission from senior officials.
Now, that the land grabbers have ignored the notices served on them, Nagesh says “We are waiting for the state government’s order to go for a survey of the land grabbing to determine the extent of encroachment and how many of them have encroached upon the land.”
Officials estimate that around 6,000 acres of revenue land has been allegedly encroached upon in Mudigere going by the notices served on the land grabbers. Taking objection to the notices served on them, politicians through their links have made an unsuccessful attempt to get Nagesh transferred from Mudigere.
Earlier, a former minister representing Mudigere against whom a notice was served on land grabbing charges by then Tahsildar Sharadamba, got the official transferred.
