Two shocking tragedies near Gobi, Salem

Police suspect that a drunken brawl between Mayilsamy and his friends could have led to his murder.

ERODE: A 26-year-old youth, Mayilsamy, was found dead with his head and face smashed, indicating a brutal murder, at Vaikalmedu area near Gobichettipalayam in Erode district on Sunday.

Police here said Mayilsamy, working as a two-wheeler mechanic, had on Saturday collected his weekly wage and was returning home when he met some friends. They are believed to have had a drink, but early today the body of Mayilsamy was found in a badly mutilated condition.

On information, Gobichettipalayam police rushed to the spot and sent the body to Gobi GH for post-mortem.

Police suspect that a drunken brawl between Mayilsamy and his friends could have led to his murder. Further probe is on.

TRAINEE COP FALLS OFF TERRACE IN SALEM:
Meanwhile, in another tragedy, an armed reserve police constable at Kumarasamypatti grounds in Salem, suffered serious injuries after he nastily fell off from the terrace of their building on Sunday. Prabhu, 26, from Dharmapuri district had joined the armed reserve police only a few months back and had been taking training at Salem.

Prabhu, along with his batch-mates was washing clothes on Sunday on the terrace when he suddenly fell off from the top and came crashing down. A critically injured Prabhu was retrieved by the policemen around and rushed to the Salem general hospital where he is being treated in the ICU. Police are investigating whether it was an accidental fall or whether poor Prabhu had attempted suicide.
