Meanwhile, a case was on Tuesday registered against the parents of the toddler.

Koraput: A six-month-old child was allegedly branded with a hot iron bangle by family members to cure him of pneumonia at Khutiguda village under Papadahandi block in Nabarangpuir district on Monday, reports said on Tuesday. 

The infant was admitted to the Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital with severe injuries on his abdomen, thighs and feet.

“Parents of the child did not take him to any hospital and instead tried to heal him with traditional method. Even when condition of the child deteriorated, they branded him with a hot iron bangle. The infant’s condition has become serious now as he is suffering from severe pneumonia and septicaemia,” said Dr Sarat Kumar Behera at the DHH.

Meanwhile, a case was on Tuesday registered against the parents of the toddler.
