Belagavi: Rowdy killing gets murky, four cops taken into CID custody

A 27-year-old rowdy was hacked to death by a rival gang near Maraimalar Nagar in Kancheepuram district, 40 km from the city on early Saturday morning.

Belagavi: The CID police team took the six accused in the mysterious killing of Gangadhar Chadachan, a notorious criminal from Bheema river belt, into custody on Tuesday. The accused include four police officials- PSI Gopal Hallur and three senior police constables- besides two members of Chadchan's rival gang in Vijayapura.

Meanwhile, the mother of Gangadhar Chadachan, Vimalabai has issued a statement from an unidentified place stating that PSI Gopal Hallur, main accused in the case, perpetrated atrocities on several villagers of Konkangaon. She alleged that the PSI verbally abused women of her village threatening to file a false case against them. She charged that her son had been killed in a fake encounter.

Accusing Mahadev Sahukar Bhairgond, leader of Chadachan's rival gang of being a notorious gangster, she accused him of committing more than 10 murders while trying to depict them as road accidents. She urged the police to arrest Bhairgond immediately and said, she faced threat to her life from the PSI. Earlier, speaking to the media in Vijayapura, ADGP Charan Reddy assured that the investigating police have collected most of information needed to take the case to a logical end. He said, all the accused were produced before a court with an appeal to hand over them to CID custody for the investigation.  

The inquiry into the case would be taken up in a professional manner by the department, he said assuring that the investigation would be completed within the next three months.
