Eight die in Kalaburagi road accident

The drivers of both the vehicles fled after accident.

Kalaburagi: Eight people, including two children, were killed and six others seriously injured when the van in which they were travelling collided head on with a lorry near Donginal cross on the Waghzari-Rippanalli state highway here on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased as well as the injured belonged to the single family from Panchamahal village in Osmanabad district of Maharashtra. According to police, seventeen people of the family were on their way to Sri Dattatreya Swamy temple at Ganagapur here, when the lorry going towards Aland collided with their vehicle.

The deceased have been identified as Swapnil Dogle and Krishna Sanjay Ingle (both children), Gajabai Ingle, Varsha Dogle, Kanthabai Ingale, Sahajbai Alande, Phoolchand Dharme and Sanjay Ingle. The injured are being treated at the district general hospital here.

The drivers of both the vehicles fled after accident. Preliminary investigations reveal that the accident happened duo to the negligence on the part of van driver, who reportedly drove his vehicle in the wrong direction. The District In-charge Minister Dr Sharanprakash Patil visited the hospital. The North Eastern Range IGP B Shivakumar and SP N. Shashikumar rushed to the spot.
