KOLLAM: Kerala State Road Transport Corporation made a loss of Rs 508 crore in the last financial year, topping the list of loss-making PSUs in the state. And if you ever wondered why it is so, here is a clue from Chathannoor in Kollam district. The Chathannoor police on Tuesday registered a case against seven employees of Kerala State Road Transport Employees Association (KSRTEA), affiliated to CITU, for attacking camera crew of a private TV channel.

And the fault of the lensmen  Arun Mohan and Shanavas Kilikolloor: attempting to film the visuals of KSRTC buses parked inside the depot after cancelling the scheduled trips as the employees were busy attending the annual general body meeting of the union’s branch unit! The crew reached the spot when some passengers informed them that as many as 22 buses were parked idle at the depot, which resulted in the cancellation of about 30 schedules.

The employees who found the crew filming the buses snatched the camera and threw it on the ground and manhandled Mr. Arun and Mr. Shanavas. They also snatched away  memory sticks in which the visuals were recorded.  While the KSRTC is yet to assess the losses it suffered due to cancellation of trips, sources in the TV channel said they estimated the loss to be about Rs 3 lakh.
