Hyderabad: Teen loses class poll, ends life
Charan was a Class VIII student at Krishnaveni Talent School in Ramannapet, where his elder brother studies in Class IX.
Hyderabad: A 13-year-old boy committed suicide on Thursday reportedly because he was teased at school after coming second behind a girl classmate in the election for class representative.
The body of C. Charan Kumar, who had gone missing on Thursday evening, was found on the railway tracks near Chityal by the Nalgonda railway police on Friday morning.
Charan was a Class VIII student at Krishnaveni Talent School in Ramannapet, where his elder brother studies in Class IX.
A police complaint filed by Charan’s father, Mr C. Vijay Kumar, who runs a grocery store, said: “Model Elections were held at the school on July 16, and Charan came second. About 420 children participated in the elections. He was depressed after losing the class representative post and committed suicide by jumping in front of a train.”
The police is considering it a possible case of suicide and a case of suspicious death has been registered.
Police said that Charan returned home at around 5 pm on Thursday and dumped his schoolbag. When his parents returned home at night, they found Charan missing and searched for him in the neighbourhood. They finally lodged a missing person complaint with the Ramannapet police late on Thursday night.
Nalgonda Government Railway Police sub-inspector Achyutam said: “The body of the boy was found today (Friday) morning on the railway tracks close to Chityal. The body was identified as that of Charan, who was missing from Ramannapet.”
He said police inquiries had revealed that Charan took part in the class representative elections held at the school and secured the second place. “It is suspected that he would have been upset at not securing the first place. His father also gave a complaint mentioning the same,” he said.
