Visakhapatnam: A man set on fire a 20-year-old girl inside her home in T. Nagarapalem in Visakhapatnam on Saturday. The attacker, later identified as P. Hari Santosh, 30, a sofa repairer, later committed suicide on a rail track near Vizianagaram.
The girl was identified as Potnuru Roopa, 20, a second-year BSc student of a private college at Tagarapuvalasa. Hari had been reportedly stalking her for months but she refused to talk to him.
Bheemili inspector G. Bala Surya Rao said the incident took place at 12.25 pm when the girl and her brother P. Upendra were at home. Santosh entered the house with a can of kerosene and poured on her later setting her ablaze.
Roopa's brother Upendra made an abortive bid to save her and suffered burn injuries in the incident.
