Chennai police search for six-member gang for burglary in 2 shops
Police have recovered CCTV footages from a nearby building and launched a hunt for the six-member gang.
Chennai: The city police are searching for a six-member gang that burgled two different shops in a row in Tambaram on Wednesday morning.
According to police, Ramesh (29), a resident of Agaramthen Main road in Selaiyur, runs a pawnshop in the same building he resides.
Around 4 am on Wednesday morning, Ramesh heard loud noises, when he woke up to check, he found three masked men robbing the mobile shop owned by Karthick that is next to his pawnshop.
He raised an alarm and chased them. However, the trio fled the scene on the two-wheeler.
When Ramesh returned, he was shocked to see the locks on the shutter of his pawnshop broken and three other masked men getting out of his shop. This trio also fled in another two-wheeler.
He rushed inside only to find the cupboard broken and jewels were stolen, the police sources said.
Based on the complaint lodged by Ramesh at Seliayur police station the burglars escaped with three sovereigns of gold jewels and 500 grams of silver ornaments from his shop and two lakh worth mobile phones from Karthick’s shop.
