Chennai: Six held for kidnap of businessman
Former partner involved in extortion case.
Chennai: Police has arrested six persons in connection with the kidnap and extortion of a city businessman three weeks ago. Suresh Kumar (47), a resident of Kolapakkam near Mangadu, is a businessman who exports spices. On September 25, Suresh Kumar met a dealer in Parry’s and was returning home in his car when a gang intercepted him near Mangadu.
Suresh Kumar was carrying Rs 18 lakh with him. The gang who came in another car rammed into Suresh Kumar’s vehicle. When Suresh Kumar got out of the vehicle, they assaulted him and bundled him into the car they came in. After retrieving the cash in the safety box in the car, the gang abandoned Suresh Kumar near Mamallapuram and fled.
Meanwhile, on Monday, a person had called Suresh Kumar and demanded money again after which he approached the police. A meeting was set on Tambaram Maduravoyal bypass when a police team surrounded the gang.
The arrested members were identified as Ravi, Ezhilkumar, Charles, Saravana Prabu, Madan Kumar and Arun Kumar. Investigations revealed that Arun Kumar was a former partner in Suresh’s business and the partnership ended few months ago due to differences between them. The arrested persons were remanded to judicial custody. Further investigations are on.
