KOCHI: In one of the biggest ganja hauls in the state, Perumbavoor police on Thursday has seized around 110 kg of the contraband from two vehicles. The police also has arrested three persons in connection with the seizure. The arrested have been identified as Vinod, a native of Kambilkandi near Adimali, Joshy of Kanjirappally and Mathew of Thrissur.  The police, however, declined to reveal further details of the three persons citing that it would hamper further progress in the investigation in connection with seizure.

The cops intercepted a car and a pick-up ban used for transporting the contraband near the Vallom Bridge. The ganja was concealed in specially made hidden openings inside the vehicles. Cops made the interception based on a tip-off from a person who has been held in connection with another ganja case, the sources said.  The police feels that a bigger racket is behind the network and rest of the members needed to be nabbed.

“We are on the look-out for more persons associated with the gang. We also suspect that more quantity of the contraband is being brought to the city," the  sources said. Further details of the gang will be revealed after nabbing accomplices, they added.  Police suspects that Perumbavoor has now become a hub point for the storage of the contraband for distribution to the rest of the state using the large number of migrant workers in the region.  A huge crowd gathered at the spot where the vehicles were intercepted, and the contraband was weighed on the road in the presence of a Tahasildar. The vehicles have been taken into custody and the accused were charged under the NDPS Act.
