Tamil Nadu: Woman kills 2 kids, survives suicide bid
Domestic quarrel with her husband is believed to be the reason behind the incident.
Chennai: A 27-year-old woman is suspected to have poisoned her two children, aged below 5 years and then attempted suicide in her house near Oragadam in Kancheepuram district, 60 kms from the city on Sunday evening. A domestic quarrel with her husband is said to be the reason behind the woman’s drastic steps. The deceased children were identified as P. Lathika (3) and P. Yashika (2). The children were living with their parents, Prakash (30) and Anitha (26) at Vedamangalam village near Oragadam.
Prakash works as a painter and was married to Anitha for four years, police said. Investigations revealed that the couple used to have frequent quarrels over the financial constraints in her life. Prakash had left home for work on Sunday afternoon when the incident took place. Anitha had mixed poison with the meals and had fed her two children and consumed the same.
A few hours later, a neighbour who came to check on Anitha found the three of them lying unconscious. With the help of others, the neighbour managed to shift the three of them to a private hospital nearby where the children were declared brought dead. Police rushed to the hospital and secured the two bodies and moved them to the Chengelpet medical college hospital for autopsy. Anitha was admitted to the same hospital for treatment. Police have launched a hunt for Prakash who has not turned up yet.
