Serial offender, tailor hacked to death in Chennai
Probe on to nab culprits in separate incidents.
Chennai: A history-sheeter and a tailor were killed in the two separate incidents in Chennai on Sunday night. In one incident, E. Prabu (35), a fisherman and resident of the Poondi Thangammal street, who has a couple of assault cases pending, was hacked in full public view near New Warp in Kasimedu Fishing Harbour. At around 8.30 pm, Prabu who was walking with his friends sighted rival ‘Kulla’ Karthik (32), fisherman and resident of Ondikuppam, Tiruvottiyur and five others arrive in an auto-rickshaw.
Sensing trouble, Prabu and his company ran for their lives. In the chase that ensued, the rival gang managed to hack Prabu who collapsed on the spot. The gang managed to flee from the spot in the getaway auto-rickshaw.
The Fishing Harbour Police moved badly injured Prabu to Government Stanley Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries not responding to the treatment. Preliminary investigations revealed Prabu had previous enmity with Karthik.
Prabu managed to attack Karthik and his men in a brawl that unfolded last week. A special team had been formed, and a manhunt is on.
In the other incident, Ganesh (32), of Ramanathapuram, who was supplying readymade garments for export firms, was found hacked to death, at his accommodation he was sharing with two of his friends in Seven Wells.
The house, located on Malaiyappan Street, Seven Wells, was rented by Hussain (32), of Korukkupet, also a tailor and a couple of roommates from Dharmapuri who are yet to be identified. On Monday afternoon, the neighbours found the door latched from outside without a lock and checked the room to find Ganesh dead.
Preliminary investigations revealed the trio indulged in a binge session on Sunday night. A drunken brawl culminated with Ganesh being stabbed in the neck with a broken liquor bottle. It is still unclear as to which of the two men hacked him. The landlord initially identified the deceased as Hussain and an inquiry revealed later the identity of the deceased as Ganesh.
