Tamil Nadu: Woman kidnaps 9-month-old girl from near Ooty, held

Udhagamandalam (Tamil Nadu): A nine-month old girl, who was kidnapped two days ago from her house at Kandal near Ooty, was on Monday rescued and a woman arrested in this connection.

Special teams were formed to nab the woman who kidnapped the girl around 8 pm on February 17, police said.

Based on information through social media that the child was in a house, police rushed to the spot and rescued the baby. They also arrested the woman, police said.

Preliminary inquiry revealed that the girl was kidnapped, as the woman, having two sons, wanted a girl to look after, they said.

Police managed to diffuse tension in the area, as a group of people sought to give a communal angle to the incident.

The child was restored to the parents and the woman remanded to judicial custody.
