Man arrested for killing father in Udupi

Udupi: A person has been arrested for murdering his father and assaulting his sister and brother-in-law.

Raghavendra Tholar had a dispute with his father Narasimha Marakala. For 9 years he has been residing separately at a portion of the house. He repeatedly used to threaten his father.

On March 19 night around 8.45 pm, Raghavendra set fire to the garbage near the house. As the cowshed was nearby, Narasimha Marakala rushed to extinguish the fire with water.

Raghavendra took up an argument with his father. He rushed to his house and brought an axe and assaulted Narasimha Marakala on the latter’s face and head. Narasimha sustained serious injuries.

Raghavendra’s sister and brother-in-law who rushed to the spot to stop the fight were assaulted by Raghavendra. Narasimha Marakala was rushed to a private hospital at Koteshwara and then to Manipal. Police said that he succumbed to injuries later.

A case was registered against Raghavendra at Kundapura Police Station. He was arrested and the court has sent him to Judicial Custody, police said.
