Bengaluru: BBM student abducted for Rs 5 lakh, freed after police trap

Bengaluru: A business management student from a reputed college was abducted for ransom by a gang of five, including an expelled student from the same college. He was then assaulted and locked inside a room in Mathikere.
The incident took place on Thursday. The kidnappers had demanded Rs 5 lakh for his release before he was rescued by the police. The victim, Ahmed Mishal, a resident of Dollar's Colony and a first year BBM student in a reputed college in Mathikere. On Thursday, while he was at a restaurant in MSR Nagar along with two of his friends, Mirza and Shamid, the five accused barged into the restaurant and abducted them. The three of five accused have been identified as Deepu, Manish and Nousheen.
The accused took them in a car and locked them in a room in Mathikere where they assaulted all three of them with lethal weapons. They snatched their mobiles, wallet and ID cards and demanded ransom.
The gang tortured them for several hours and later freed Mirza and Shamid after they realized they hail from poor families. They then demanded ransom for Mishal and continued torturing him.
They made him called his family at knife point to arrange the money. Mishal called his cousin and narrated his ordeal, who rushed to the Sadashivanagar police station and filed a complaint.
Under police guidance, he agreed to pay the ransom and they laid a trap for them. The gang asked them to come to a deserted place near Hebbal on Ring Road, where the police laid a trap. However the gang sensed that Mishal's cousin was not alone and fled leaving behind Mishal.
He was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment. He later filed a complaint with the Sadashivanagar police stating that the accused were local residents and had previously abducted several students from rich families, but none had filed a police complaint.
The victim said that one of the accused was a final year BBA student from the same college and he was recently expelled for involvement in a similar crime. The Sadashivanagar police have registered a case.
