Chennai: Chief Electoral Officer receives hoax bomb threat

Chennai: The office of the Chief Electoral Officer on Monday evening received an anonymous letter claiming that a bomb had been planted there.
Following the threat, members of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) along with sniffer dogs carried out checks at the office of CEO Sathyabratha Sahoo. They checked the secretariat premises thoroughly after evacuating the building which proved the threat was a 'hoax.

Earlier on March 18, 2019, a bomb threat was reported at the home of Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and which turned out to be a hoax. Police detained a 23-year-old man from Chennai for making the threat call.
Similarly, on March 6, the police arrested a man from Coimbatore for making phone calls claiming that the bombs had been placed at the residences of the former chief minister J. Jayalalithaa and actor Rajinikanth in Poes Garden in Chennai. Recently, the same person had called the office of the Puducherry Chief Minister as well warning of bombs, reports stated.
