VIJAYAWADA: Unidentified persons attacked a couple who had gone to the pushkar ghat at the Krishna river at Seetanagaram and raped the woman on Saturday night, police said. The victim is a nursing student and is engaged to the person with whom she went there.

According to reports, the gangsters tied up the man with ropes. After assaulting the girl, they reportedly went towards Vijayawada in a boat.
The victims lodged a complaint with the Tadepalli police who shifted the girl to GGH at Guntur for treatment.

According to the victim's mother, the student was supposed to return home to go for duty at 8 pm on Saturday. When she failed to return home even after 10 pm, her father grew suspicious lodged a complaint with the police.

The police suspect that three members of the so-called ‘blade batch’ might have been involved in the crime. Guntur Urban SP K. Arif Hafeez said special teams were set up to identify the culprits. He said the accused would be nabbed soon.
