Anantapur: In a major breakthrough, Anantapur Zilla Parishad chief executive officer Bhaskar Reddy was suspended by the special secretary following the election commission’s directions over the irresponsible inclusion of bogus voters in the Uravakonda Assembly segment.

In a dispute over more than 6,000 voters included in the Uravakonda Assembly segment, TD MLA Payyavula Kesav represented the Chief Election Commission.

During the inquiry by a team, it was reportedly noticed that a large number of bogus voters were included in the voter lists and that genuine voters were also deleted in several villages.

Reacting to the complaint, the Election Commission ordered the suspension of Anantapur ZP chief executive officer Bhaskar Reddy, who was also the returning officer of the Uravakonda Assembly segment.

Sources said the commission had reacted a second time following the suspension of the action against the official, and the special secretary Rajasekhar issued orders of suspension on Sunday.

The suspension of the ZP CEO raised many eyebrows as TD leaders blamed YSRC leaders for trying to include bogus voters in various segments.

Reacting to the action of the Election Commission, Uravakonda MLA Payyavula Kesav observed that the EC recognised the worth of even a single vote, which will be a deciding factor in every election. “As more than 6,000 bogus voters were added in a constituency and the Election Commission suspended a district official, the YSRC government should feel responsible for this,”he added.
