Accused Ameerul says Anarul is killer
Kochi: The Ernakulam Sessions Court on Tuesday accepted the charge sheet filed by police in the Perumbavur law student’s rape and murder case. The court also posted the case to September 26 for preliminary hearing. After completion of the preliminary hearing the court will decide on framing charges against the accused. The court, meanwhile, dismissed the bail application of Ameerul Islam.
When the court took up the matter, Ameerul submitted in Hindi that he is not the killer. He contended that one Anarul is the real culprit. The court informed Ameerul that the court will consider the argument on charge sheet much later. The accused contended that as the cops have filed charge sheet in the case he should be granted bail. The cops filed the charge sheet on September 17. The prosecution lawyer N.K. Unnikrishnan strongly opposed the bail. He contended that if bail is granted he may influence the witnesses.
According to the prosecution, many of the witnesses are his relatives. He contended that the accused was nabbed after a huge effort. If bail is granted he may escape from the law, the state contended. The state also took a stand that if released he may be attacked by the public owing to the stature of the case. The court asked Ameerul to inform his educational qualification to this he replied that he studied till second standard and knows Hindi. Advocate P. Rajan is appearing for Ameerul in the case.
DNA test settles row over paternity issue
Clearing the air in the controversy over paternity of the victim in Perumbavur law student rape and murder case the cops in the charge sheet mentioned that the DNA samples of the victim and her father Pappu have matched. There were allegations that Pappu was not her real father and there were disputes on whether to charge Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atroc-ities) Act against Ame-erul, the sole accused in the case.
The police conducted DNA samples as an attempt to end the dispute over the paternity thus strengthening the case. Police had also charged SC and ST (Pr-evention of Atrocities) Act against him. Police in its charge sheet attached the stat-ements of Ameerul's second wife Kanchana, his parents Nyim-udheen and Khadeeja, brother Badarul, sister Aamina Khathum.
Police also took statements of Ameerul's close relatives and friends in Assam. It admitted their failure in not seizing the dress he was wearing when the incident occurred and the mobile phone he had used. According to police, Ameerul after committing the murder, visited his brother Anarul Islam’s house and took bath.
After that he convinced his brother that he is planning to visit their parents ans sought money. He reached Assam in early May and left to Tamil Nadu in June first week. Police had also seized the beedi packet he had used and corroborated with the statements to prove that he used the same brand of beedi. There is no mention about Anarul Islam whom Ameerul claims to be the real culprit.
