Hyderabad: Hubby harassed me, says wife

Hyderabad: A 22-year-old woman, the wife of an official (ministerial staff) working in the Intelligence Wing of the state police, alleged harassment and beating by her husband after the delivery of her two female children. She also alleged that despite several formal and informal complaints to the police, she did not get justice. 

M. Priyanka, a resident of Amberpet said she got married to M. Sai Kumar, who is currently posted at Siddipet police commissionerate, started harassing her after she gave birth to two female children. The kids are aged between two and three years.

Priyanka and Sai Kumar got married on February 10, 2015. 

For about two years, they were living together at a rented house at Amberpet. But, one year back, Sai Kumar allegedly left her and moved to Siddipet on official duty and was reportedly not showing any interest in living with his wife.

“After I gave birth to two female children, he left me. He harassed me mentally and beat me on several occasions for giving birth to girl children. Despite meeting several police officials and lodging a complaint at the women’s police station in the city, no action has been taken against him,” alleged Priyanka at a press conference here on Thursday.

“Counselling was given to the couple several times, but there has been no respite. My daughter did not receive any justice and she along with the children are living with me. We need compensation and care for the children,” demanded Sudha, mother of Priyanka.

Siddipet police commissioner Joel Davis said, “The woman has approached and informed about the ill-treatment about three months ago. Her husband was counselled and he agreed to live with her. Post that, she lodged a complaint with the Women Police Station in Hyderabad.”

A police official on condition of anonymity said, “Priyanka was reportedly asked to undergo counselling as she was not willing to move to Siddipet.”
