HYDERABAD: An 18-year-old girl ended her life at her house in Dundigal after a 60-year-old butcher refused to marry her.

According to Dundigal police, the victim G. Poojitha took the extreme step at her house in Indiramma Colony, Bahadurpally late Tuesday night.

Poojitha had developed an intimate relationship with the butcher, Saleem, seven months back. The two got into a physical relationship and she became pregnant two months back. Saleem convinced her to go for abortion at a private hospital in Bahadurpally, a Dundigal police officer said.

For the last three weeks, she was forcing her parents, G. Saroja and Kushinrudu to get her married to Saleem, police said. Her parents, both migrant labourers, were against it and said that apart from the age difference, Saleem was already married.

Two weeks back, she proposed to Saleem and asked him to marry her, which he refused.

Dundigal police registered a case of abetment to suicide under 306 IPC against Saleem and are investigating.

The victim’s body has been shifted to Osmania general hospital for postmortem.
