HYDERABAD: A video of a man allegedly stealing an 11-kg laddu from a Ganesh pandal at Miyapur went viral on Thursday, and sent the police on a wild goose chase.

Miyapur police said they had checked with the organizers of about 500 pandals but none had reported a stolen laddu. The only clue the police had was a line in the content section that said the laddu was stolen from Pragatinagar, Miyapur, and mentioned a pandal organized by a local youth association, ‘Omkar Seva Samithi’.

Miyapur inspector M. Prem Kumar said, “I received calls from senior officials and formed special teams. We cross-checked with each and every pandal since the morning, We have checked over 500 pandals, none reported a stolen laddu.”

The police circulated the video among their informants and local pandal organisers but none could identify the place.
