Hyderabad: Ola cab driver commits suicide over debts
On Friday morning, when his father, Pandari, went to wake him up, he found him motionless.
Hyderabad: Financial burden and pressure from money lenders forced a 31-year-old cabbie to end his life in Uppal.
Nagu Mahesh, who was working with Ola, committed suicide by consuming poison at his home when his mother and siblings were away. His family members said that he had borrowed money from a few people, who were harassing him by charging a heavy interest.
Mahesh joined Ola three months ago as a driver and took on lease a Tata Bolt car. As per the agreement with the Ola management, he had to pay Rs 1,100 per day, but he could not pay it for over 12 days, which got accumulated. In addition to this, he had borrowed money from known persons who were charging a high interest.
On Friday morning, when his father, Pandari, went to wake him up, he found him motionless.
“He has been paying a 10 per cent interest to the private lenders. In addition to this, he was depressed due to the increasing dues to Ola.” said Santosh, the victim’s brother.
“Prima facie a case is registered. If the role of private lenders is found, we will alter the charges,” said Mr Anantachary, SI from the Uppal police station.
