Yasin Bhatkal, aides show no change: Cherlapally Central Prison

Hyderabad: There is “no change” in the behaviour of Yasin Bhatkal and four other condemned prisoners after death sentence was awarded to five Indian Mujahideen operatives by the NIA court here in connection with the  Dilshuknagar blasts.

Prisons’ha told this newspaper that as per the Prisons Act, all the five condemned prisoners were shifted to solitary confinement cells in Manjeera Barrack. “We have deputed guards at all the five cells for monitoring these men. The guards will keep an eye on their activities. They will not be allowed to come outside the barracks as per the Prisons Act and rules,” he said.

Narasimha said that as per the records of prisons, all the five men were not involved in any hardcore activities against the jail staff or other prisoners during their stay there. “Except for two or three incidents, they did not behave rudely manner,” he said.

An official from Cherlapally Central Prison said there was no change in the behaviour of Yasin Bhatkal and others after the court order. “They took their dinner on Monday as usual. On Tuesday, they continued as usual,” the official said.

The official said there was no indication of any conscience prick in Yasin Bhatkal and the four other prisoners. “They spoke to other staff giggling. They continued with their prayers as per schedule,” the official said.

Relatives of a few condemned prisoners including Yasin Bhatkal's wife informed the prisons authority that they would visit the jail for Mulakhat with their kin. But, on Tuesday, no one arrived at the Cherlapally jail.
