Hyderabad: 1 held for duping woman Rs 14 lakh promising villas
Their investigations revealed that Damari Estates was a fake company, which had similarly cheated others too.
HYDERABAD: Punjagutta police arrested a person in connection with the cheating case booked against Damari Estates, a group of Sree Suman Media, following a complaint by a 37-year-old housewife S. Anita that she was duped of Rs 14 lakh. She had approached the accused after she saw an advertisement by Damari Estates in a regional television channel stating that flats were up for sale at low costs.
Identifying the accused as Ch. Suman, police said he informed the victim that a site was available at Kammadanam village in Farooqnagar mandal and offered her a villa for Rs 29 lakh. Believing that, Anita booked two villas by paying an advance of Rs 14 lakh at the rate of Rs 7 lakh per villa. She transferred money online in three instances. Suman assured Anita that registration will be done within 10 days. But when that was not done, she lodged a complaint with Panjagutta police.
Their investigations revealed that Damari Estates was a fake company, which had similarly cheated others too.
During investigations, police realised that Suman did not own any land, but showed them on paper. He collected funds from people in the name of developing the lands. He lured prospective buyers by advertising in reputed newspapers and television channels.
Punjagutta police inspector M. Niranjan Reddy asked people not to believe fraudulent advertisements that promise lands at cheap rates. He advised others who got similarly cheated to approach the Punjagutta police station.
