Hyderabad: Passenger held with gold bars
The passenger who came on Gulf Air flight GF 274, was carrying a television which was brought out of the cargo hold.
Hyderabad: A woman passenger who tried to smuggle gold bars by concealing them inside a television under its printed circuit board and a Nokia mobile phone box was arrested by customs officials at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Friday. The passenger was coming from Jeddah via Bahrain.
Officials of the Air Intelligence Unit of the customs department said they intercepted the woman for checking after receiving a tip off. The passenger who came on Gulf Air flight GF 274, was carrying a television which was brought out of the cargo hold. On inquiry she admitted smuggling gold bars.
“The passenger hid six gold bars inside the television under its printed circuit board. Two more bars were concealed in a Nokia 105 mobile phone box along with the mobile and other accessories,” they said. The weight of the smuggled gold is 931 grams and is valued at around Rs 27.83 lakh. The passenger was detained and the gold seized.
