AP youth shot dead at fuel station in US

KAKINADA: A student, Sayeah Veera of Eluru in Andhra Pradesh, was shot dead in a shell-gas station in West Columbus in the US, as per information received at his home in India on Thursday night.

According to family members of the deceased, the incident occurred at 7.30 pm US time, and the family members in India were informed of it by midnight on Thursday.

Sayesh, 24, went to the US in 2021 to do MS at Cleave University in Ohio. He was doing a temporary job at a gas station. Miscreants tried to loot the station and Sayesh tried to resist them. One of the gang members opened fire.

"Sayesh went to the US by taking an education loan. His studies should have been over in two months from now, and he recently told me that he would get a permanent job there. TANA (Telugu Association of North America) representatives told me that the body would be handed over to the Indian Embassy soon," said VV Narasimha.

Sayesh’s father Venkata Ramna who worked as an Economics professor died four years back. His mother Jayasri is a housewife. His elder brother Venkatesh is working with the collegiate education department in Mangalagiri. His grandfather Veera Satya is residing at Palakollu in the West Godavari district.

Narasimharao said Sayesh had taken an H1 Visa too. Grief gripped the house at Eluru. The deceased’s mother has not been able to bear the demise.

Home Minister Taneti Vanitha expressed her deep condolences to the family members. She said all steps would be taken to bring the body back to its native place. Eluru MLA Srinivas Nani visited the house of Sayesh and expressed his condolences.
