Hyderabad: A week after an accident in which he was injured, an assistant sub inspector of Yacharam police station died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital on Sunday.
The ASI, Y. Jangaiah, was crossing the road at Sagar Ring Road on his scooter on May 13 when a rashly driven car hit him. He suffered serious head injuries in the mishap. The incident occurred in an area coming under LB Nagar police station limits.
Police said the driver of the car, identified as Vikram, did not have a DL to drive the vehicle. "Vikram was a mechanic. He was driving a car that belonged to businessman Sampath. Both were friends," said LB Nagar sub inspector K. Yadaiah.
"Vikram rushed the police officer to a nearby private hospital where he died on Sunday," the SI said. LB Nagar police initially booked the car driver under Section 337 (inflicting injuries) but now they have changed it to 304A (death through negligence). The police took car owner Sampath too in custody along with Vikram.
