Operation Muskan: Andhra Pradesh police rescues 8,739 children in three days
The police found 228 children belonged to other states and 8,511 were from Andhra Pradesh
VIJAYAWADA: The AP police has rescued 8739 children during the three-day state-wide Operation Muskan programme. AP DGP Gautam Sawang said here on Friday that the Operation Muskan was conducted in 13 districts for the past three days.
Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy congratulated the police department for carrying out Operation Muskan task.
DGP Gautam Sawang said chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced several decisions for the welfare of children who have lost their parents and became orphans due to Covid19.
Following the directions of the CM, the AP police launched Operation Muskan on Wednesday and it concluded on Friday.
DGP Sawang said as many as 8,739 children were rescued. Of these, 7,425 were boys and 1314 girls. Of these, 205 were under five years of age, 1,860 under 6-10 years and 6,674 under 11-15 years.
Of these, 8,724 were handed over to their parents by the child welfare committees, a dozen children to the child care homes and three to the covid care home for treatment of Coronavirus infection.
Among the rescued children, 2,196 has education up to Class V, 5,587 have education up to Class 10 and 725 were illiterates.
Among the rescued, 4,234 were labourers and 123 beggars. Some 772 were street children and 3,565 engaged in other occupations. Some 98 children had physical disabilities and 10 had mental disabilities.
The police, during the rescue operations, found that as many as 5,624 children were working in various fields due to poverty. Some 760 had lack of parental care, seven children faced difficulty due to failure in exams and 2348 due to other reasons.
Among the rescued children, 2,595 belonged to SC- ST castes, 1,633 to minority communities, 3,536 belong to backward castes and 975 to OC communities.
The police found 228 children belonged to other states and 8,511 were from Andhra Pradesh.
The police found 1,982 children with Corona symptoms and hence conducted Covid19 tests on them. Some 28 rescued children tested positive for Covid.
The 1,232 children were found to be Covid negative and the results of 722 children were yet to come. The Corona-positive children were transferred to the government covid care centers for treatment.
DGP Sawang directed the SPs and commissioners to take care of the Covid-infected rescued children till they recovered.
