Telangana: CBI to prosecute top postal officials for old note fraud
CBI sources said another case in which bank officials were involved has also been chargesheeted.
Hyderabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sought prosecution permission from Postal department against the employees including Indian Postal Service Official K. Sudheer Babu who were involved in demonetisation fraud cases.
According to CBI sources chargesheets have been filed in 10 cases pertaining to exchange of old currency notes during demonetisation booked against the postal department.
CBI sources said another case in which bank officials were involved has also been chargesheeted. CBI has sent a letter to the postal department seeking prosecution permission that is mandatory under the act.
“We are waiting for the prosecution sanction. The accused Sudheer Babu, former top official of postal department in the city, is involved in four cases where he was the kingpin. Other cases pertain to other cities,” said a CBI source.
CBI booked the first criminal case against Sudheer Babu and other postal department officials last year in which Rs 36 lakh worth of new notes of Rs 2000 denomination were exchanged with old currency notes. Himayatnagar sub-postmaster G. Revathi and G. Ravi Teja, office assistant of the senior superintendent office were also named.
