Hyderabad: 2 given life for child trafficking

Hyderabad: A local court sentenced two persons to life for child trafficking and employing the children in hazardous bangle-making units in the Old City. Mohd Imtiyaz, 40, and Munna, 28, Bihar natives who run a bangle-making unit in Amannagar in Talabkatta, will serve 14 years in jail.
The police had registered case against them in January 2016 after rescuing several children from their workshop located at the Chacha Garage of Talabkatta, a hub of bangle-making units.
In April 2016, when the police raided the house of Munna, they again found him employing some children following which one more case was registered. “In both cases, the court convicted them to 14 years life imprisonment. Our teams including the investigation officer and his seniors conducted a thorough probe and filed a good chargesheet resulting in the court awarding conviction,” said DCP, South, V. Satyanarayana.
The children who were rescued by the police were later sent back to their native places in a special train. “The children hailing from Bihar, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh were rehabilitated by the respective state governments,” the official said.
The Balala Hakkula Sangham, appreciated the police for ensuring conviction to the child traffickers. “Only such harsh punishments will put an end to the menace in the city,” said Mr Achyuta Rao, member of the organisation.
