Two postal officials in ACB net for corruption
K Laxmikanth, the then sub-postmaster at the Koddngal sub-post office had made false entries in the accounting software to show withdrawals
Hyderabad: The anti-corruption wing of the Central Bureau of Intelligence, Hyderabad, has registered criminal cases against two officials in the postal department for diverting Rs 1.5 crore funds at Kodangal in Mahabubnagar district.
Ch. Srinivasa Rao, postal superintendent, Mahbubnagar district, lodged a complaint with the anti-corruption wing alleging that K Laxmikanth, the then sub-postmaster at the Koddngal sub-post office had made false entries in the accounting software to show withdrawals in GL No. 480010010 from August 2, 2021, to January 22, 2022, and as a result, he diverted Rs 1.5 crore.
He also claimed that Laxmikanth made several false entries in branch office daily accounts from December 1, 2021, to January 5, 2021, to show money transfers to different branch offices without the knowledge of the branch postal officer.
The accused had also allegedly diverted Rs 90 lakh from social security pension accounts to different accounts.
“To cover up his dishonest activity, the accused officer submitted bulk slips of these fraudulent transfers amount to the branch office by manipulating the bills and changing the dates and transaction details. The accused officer used the SAP user names of branch officers and other officers and made false entries having codes on different names such as cash in transit, SB withdrawals, SSP payments, MIS payments and corresponding details with the head office,” the complainant said.
The accused officer Laxmikanth has transferred Rs 60 lakh to the accounts of K Bhardwaj, an office assistant, Superintendent of Post office, Mahbubnagar Division. Both accused officers have diverted the government funds to their personnel accounts and committed criminal conspiracy. Based on the complaint, the anti-corruption wing officials of CBI have registered cases against the accused and started an investigation.
