Arms haul at slain BJP worker's home in Kannur
Six long swords, an axe and iron rods recovered by police team.
Kannur: The police on Sunday raided the house of a BJP worker who was suspected to have been killed while making bombs on Saturday and recovered a cache of arms. The police team led by Thalassery DySP Prince Abraham, Kuthuparamba CI K.P. Suresh Babu and Panur CI K. Shaji recovered six long swords, an axe and iron rods from the house of Ponnambarath Deekshith (23), son of Pradeepan, Olakkadavu, near Kathiroor.
Deekshith, who was fatally injured, died on the spot and the first floor of the house was reduced to rubble by the impact of the blast. Only Deekshith, a construction worker, and Pradeepan were staying in this house. His mother, Manjula, died long ago and his only brother Diljith was staying in another house. Police has registered a case of unnatural death.
CPM Kannur district secretary P. Jayarajan said that a case should be registered against BJP leaders for criminal conspiracy. There was tension in the area, ahead of Sree Krishna Jayanthi, and at a time when the CPM was set to celebrate Chattambi Swami dinam on the same day. A police team led by Kathiroor principal SI Surendran Kalyadan is camping in the area.
