KOLLAM: In a suspected case of suicide, a couple from Karunagappally was found charred inside a car parked near a parking ground at Nilakkal in Pathanamthitta on Tuesday night. They were identified as Rajendran, 55, and his wife Subha, 50,  of Peruthundi Veedu, Kozhivila, Karunagappally.

The incident took place around 10.30 p.m.  on the  Pampa police station road. The car turned into a ball of fire following a small explosion,  according to eyewitnesses.  The body of Subha was  burnt completely in the driving seat of the car while the partially burnt body of Rajendran was found in a sewage canal near  the car’s left door  which was open. Pampa police rushed to the spot and doused  the fire after being informed by the workers of Sabari plantation nearby.

Police  found a photo of the duo, behind which it was written to inform  their elder daughter Dr. Ammu about the ‘suicide.’ Family issue is said to be the reason for the  extreme step taken by the couple. The car was registered in the name of Subha. The bodies were released to the relatives after autopsy at the Pathanamthitta taluk hospital.
