Chennai: 5 tonnes of gutka, 3 trucks seized; 2 held

Chennai: Sleuths from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized five tonnes of gutka from a godown and arrested two men in connection with smuggling gutka in Chitalapakkam, on Friday.
According to officials from the Narcotics Control Bureau, they received information that gutka was stored at a godown at Nemilichery in Chitalapakkam.
On Friday around 10:30 am, we raided the godown and recovered the gutka products smuggled from other states, said an officer.
The godown belonged to one Muthuraj (38) and Muthusundar (35) of Nemilichery who runs a grocery shop in the locality.
During enquiry, the two confessed that they used to get the banned product from Bengaluru, to sell them to shops in and around the city.
Based on their confession, NCB arrested the duo and registered a case.Officials have also seized three trucks, along with the gutka.
“We have taken samples from cartons for lab tests. We will destroy all the gutka packets by setting them afire based on the lab report,” added an official.
