Thieves get taste for cheap liquor in Karimnagar
The Karimnagar police is coordinating with the police of bordering districts to nab the gang members.
Karimnagar: A gang has become talk of the town by indulging in a series of burglaries in wine shops and stealing cartons of only cheap liquor bottles. As many as 10 such incidents have taken place in the recent past in Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Warangal, Nizamabad and Siddipet districts.
The Karimnagar police is coordinating with the police of bordering districts to nab the gang members.
According to police sources, the gang members do not use mobile phones and smash CCTV cameras before they commit the theft. They gain entry into the wine shops by breaking the shutters. They cover their faces with masks and steal the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) connected with the CCTVs to bury the evidence before leaving the place. The modus operandi of the burglars is same in different locations of theft and it is confirmed that a single gang is involved in all the burglaries.
Karimnagar police suspects that the gang has members below 30 years of age and is indulging in burglaries in wine shops for their own consumption. They target cheap liquor as it’s more intoxicating.
It is also suspected that the stolen cheap liquor is used in manufacturing spurious liquor by mixing it with other brands.
Karimnagar police commissioner V. B. Kamalasan Reddy said that they have got clues from a footage recorded in a wine shop in Gangadhara village where the burglars had failed to take the DVR of CCTVs with them.
He said they have asked all wine shop owners to install CCTV cameras inside and outside their shops to avoid thefts.
