Visakhapatnam: Police arrested two relatives of Ch (Potti) Ramesh on Wednesday in connection with his wife Tripurambika’s suicide. They had gone went absconding after the suicide on Monday. ACP G. Rammohana Rao said they registered a case of dowry death under Section 304B against Ramesh and his parents, sister and brother-in-law following the complaint filed by the deceased woman’s mother, P. Pushpalatha.
“We have arrested Ramesh’s sister Venkata Mahalakshmi and brother-in-law Mallik-arjuna Rao on Wednesday. The family of Ramesh had reportedly started harassing Tripurambika soon after the marriage. As per SC guidelines, we cannot remand Ramesh’s parents Penchalayya and Penchalamma to remand as they are above 60. They can only be produced in court,” said Rammohana Rao.
The dead woman’s mother, Pushpalatha, and other relatives alleged that harassment by Ramesh’s family took the life of Tripurambika. “They treated my daughter like a slave and didn’t even give food, sleeping accommodation, etc. They tortured her for dowry and harassed her for not conceiving a baby. They didn’t to the couple. Unfortunately, Ramesh always supported his parents and sister,” she added.
As Ramesh was not at home at the time of the suicide and as his in-laws did not file any complaint against him the police hasn’t arrested Ramesh. But they have kept an eye on him.
