Three murders rock Bengaluru city
Property dispute is said to be the reason behind one of the murders.
BENGALURU: Three people were murdered in separate incidents in the city since Sunday night. A 76-year-old realtor was found murdered at his house in RMC Yard Layout on Monday afternoon. Property dispute is said to be the reason behind the murder.
The deceased, Gilbert Correya, was living separately in his house after his wife passed away last year. His two sons – one a civil contractor and another a software professional – live in separate houses in the city. He was reportedly into paint business earlier, but had turned a realtor for the last couple of years.
The domestic help, Gouri, came home on Monday afternoon around 12.30 pm and found Mr Correya lying still. He was rushed to a hospital, where the doctors confirmed that he had died several hours ago. Preliminary probe revealed that the assailants had strangulated him to death with a mobile phone charger.
“One of the sons said that he visited Mr Correya on Sunday evening and stayed till 7.30 pm. There are no signs of forcible entry into the house, which suggests that someone known to the deceased is behind the murder. The assailants might have tried to throw chili powder into his face and it had spilled all over his body. They have also ransacked the house before leaving, but we are yet to know whether any valuables are stolen,” the police said.
Man killed
Demanding sexual favour from a friend’s girlfriend proved fatal for a man, as his friend slit his throat and murdered him. The incident was reported in Tulasi Park near Upparpet police station on Monday morning.
The police arrested the accused within a few hours. The deceased has been identified as Girish, aged around 30, while the accused is Madan alias Shastri, who is from H.D. Kote in Mysuru.
Both the accused and the deceased were working at the city railway station as agents and had come in contact with each other six months ago. Madan was in love with a 35-year-old woman and Girish had allegedly given her Rs 500 demanding sexual favours from her.
“After learning about it, Madan was nursing a grudge against Girish. When he was with his girlfriend at Tulasi Park on Monday morning, Girish went to the place and asked the woman to return his money. There was a fight between Madan and Girish. Madan took out a knife and slit Girish’s throat killing him on the spot. After the murder, the couple escaped. Through one of the common friends, the identity of the deceased was established. Based on several clues, Madan was arrested from a Mysuru-bound train at the city railway station. He confessed to the murder and told us that he was trying to escape to Mysuru along with his girlfriend after the murder,” an official said.
