Belagavi: A day after a case of gangrape was registered against four men in Belagavi, the police arrested all the accused and produced them before a court here on Wednesday. All the four are residents of Mutyanatti, a village on the outskirts of Belagavi. They have been identified as Sanju alias Siddappa Daddi (24), Suresh alias Chacha Bharamappa Belagavi (24), Sunil alias Yallapasya Lagamanna Rajakatti (21) and Mahesh Balappa Shivannagol (23).
The 5th Additional District and Sessions Judge remanded all of them to four-day police custody on Wednesday. The accused had attacked the girl and her boyfriend at Kakti on the outskirts of Belagavi on February 15 evening and gangraped the girl after tying up the boy to a tree.
They had also video-recorded the gangrape on a mobile phone. Later, the four had made repeated extortion calls to the girl, saying they would expose the video if she did not pay up.
Unable to cope with extortion calls, she informed her guardians who made her lodge a complaint with the Belagavi police. Several student organisation took out a protest rally in Belagavi on Wednesday, demanding a stringent punishment to the rapists and urged the police department to give security to women.
