Kochi: Elderly woman attacked, looted
The couple introduced themselves as cable operators and told the victim they received a call to repair the cable line.
Kochi: An unidentified couple posing as cable operators attacked an elderly woman who was alone at her house in Eroor near Trippunithura and decamped with nearly eight sovereigns of gold ornaments on Friday afternoon.
79-year old Raghupathi, a retired teacher, was alone in her house near Labour Corner in Eroor when a man and a woman, appearing to in their mid forties, arrived there by 12.45 pm.
"The couple introduced themselves as cable operators and told the victim they received a call to repair the cable line. The elderly woman opened the doors and the duo started 'work'. They asked for a blade and attacked the victim after making sure that there was no one else in the house," police said.
The man hit the elderly woman's head with a rod, and she fell unconscious. The duo then robbed of her gold chain and two gold bangles before fleeing in their scooter. The woman regained consciousness after some time and ran to a near-by shop who rushed her to the hospital. Her condition is said to be serious.
The Hill Palace Police registered a case under IPC section 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) and collected evidence from the house and CCTV images from the locality.
"There are reports that the local residents had seen the couple there in the previous day when they might have noticed her being alone during the day. Further probe is on,” they said.
