Hyderabad: Nights for women turn ‘darker’
With rise in harassment, women in IT area find it tough to travel back home from office.
Hyderabad: Women working in the IT corridor area face a tough time moving around at nights with the increasing number of people who misbehave with and harass women on roads.
Even after several incidents of molestation, spanking and groping taking place in the IT corridor area and reporting to police, there has been no respite.
Recently, cases of groping and spanking flooded at the Cyberabad police commissionerate, where the victims faced inappropriate touches on multiple occasions by men moving around on bikes in a single day. In a recent incident, a group of women techies walking home from their offices at Madhapur were subjected to sexual abuse by unidentified persons moving on bikes.
The suspects did not stop with this. They proceeded on the bike and molested a few more women. Police finds that some women do not come forward to complain about the incidents.
A 24-year-old woman hailing from Andhra Pradesh has been working as a software engineer at an MNC located at Madhapur. She stays in a hostel at Vittal Rao Nagar.
A few days ago, when she was going home from office along with two female colleagues, a man riding a bike travelling parallel to her, moved closer and groped her from the rear. Before she could come out of shock and react, he sped into another lane, where he did the same thing to other women walking on the road.
Passersby tried to catch him, but he escaped.
“Such incidents are happening every single day in and around the area. A similar incident happened to a friend of the victim when the accused molested her on the road while she was returning from office and demanded that she have sex with him. When she refused, she was badly abused,” the victim told the police.
Based on the complaint from a victim, a case was registered at Madhapur police station under Section 354 A of the IPC.
With the increasing number of such incidents, a special team has been formed in the Cyberabad police commissionerate headed by an IPS officer exclusively, to work on the cases and apprehend the accused persons.
Senior policemen are chalking out plans to increase visible patrolling in the IT corridor area.
Cyberabad police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said, “We have received several complaints of molestation. A special team has been constituted to collect evidence in the cases and the accused will be apprehended soon.”
