CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP has planned massive programmes to expand the footprint of pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, the ideologue of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the forerunner of the BJP, in the State during his birth centenary year. The launch will coincide with the three-year achievement of the Narendra Modi government in May. The saffron party has geared up all its 19 departments or wings to take up a series of programmes. State and national leaders who met at Ambur in neighbouring Vellore district on Saturday during the party’s State executive meeting, reviewed the programmes to be implemented upto January next year. Arvind Menon, national in-charge of the party is expected to give a final shape to the events being planned by the State unit, said sources.

“Pandit Deendayal’s contribution to the party and the nation as well, will be disseminated to the people. All the 19 departments will work in tandem to carry forward the message to the people,” says BJP senior M. Chakravarthy. Speaking to this correspondent he said the BJP is observing year-long programmes across the nation to mark the 100 th  birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, known for his contribution to social-political philosophy in the form of his idea of ‘Integral Humanism.’

Born on September 25, 1916 at the Nagla Chandrbhan village in Mathura district, Upadhyaya completed schooling from Pila-ni and pursued a Bachelors degree and later Masters degree in English Literature.  Apart from his contributions to the party, he is particularly remembered for his social philosophies that made him much more than a politician. “We will launch a booklet in Tamil on the contribution of Deendayal and also the achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with specific reference to Tamil Nadu,” Mr. Sarvothaman, in-charge of publicity and literature, said.

Meanwhile, party president Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan lashed out at the opposition parties for criticising the Centre on the farmers’ agitation and said the onus rested with the state government to carry forward the Centre’s good schemes.
